I returned to learning after a 30 year gap when I took a Foundation Certificate in Creative Technology at Coleg Harlech. Although I knew very little about technology, my strengths have always been in art and design and creative writing and I was an enthusiastic learner. At Harlech my creativity was reawakened and in particular I found the Film and Radio modules very inspiring.
The opportunity to achieve the degree I didn't take in my youth while satisfying a lifelong love of literature and movies has led me to study Film & Television at Aberystwyth University.
I have three children and have worked in a number of fields including running my own cafe business. I currently work part time, look after my allotment and my family and live in a beautiful little village in North Wales.

I'm hoping to leave this course with a really good understanding of quick editing and cinematography. The blog space is a useful tool to document our thoughts and discussion on the week's work, and reflect on the final piece. I'm looking forward to developing a project that we can all be proud of.
Since I was eleven I always wanted to be part of the film industry. I have grown to enjoy experimental filmmaking in its finest form, and appreciate highly researched/ issue based products which prize themselves on conveying a set of messages and values over a spectacle of narrative driven conformity. Now, in the first year of my degree in Film & Television Studies, I am that bit closer to my goal of becoming a screenwriter and film director in the future.

I have always enjoyed film-making amongst other hobbies and have had some previous success with it through media platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo, gaining a small following on both. However, nothing I've created could ever be considered that of a professional standard and so, I hope that from being on a course such as this I will come away with a better understanding of the process and in turn, create content at a level that is considered just that.
Ben GranthamAfter spending 2 years in publishing (Scoot-Mag, Scoot Nation Magazine, French Toast Magazine) I've wanted to broaden my skill set as a producer within the media. This means not only improving on what I can deliver as a journalist and photographer (currently specialising in a very small niche compared to what is considered 'mainstream media'), but also gaining a reputable understanding the visual and audible elements of communication that are videography and sound. I'm hoping that, with regard to this films and media projects in general, this course will help me to not just think like a professional would, but will provide me with the knowledge to create an end result that is viewed as professional.
